    -The file is 95MB.

    Computer Specs
    -Nvidia Quadro FX 4500
    -Mac Pro (running Vista 32bit)
    -8G of RAM, 2-500G HD's.

Basically - don't do that. Unless you have a couple of months to wait for the output....

Real simple. Plain out of memory. Remember - for each time you double the size of a rendering - you increase the memory by 4x. Double it again and the requirments go up by 16x. Compund interest. For a rendering of that size - I'd probably render about 6000 px max. You just aren't going to notice the difference between 150 dpi and 600 dpi on a rendering like that. Adding memory isn't going to get you there. You'd need computer the size of something that only the CIA has.

No computer out there has the horsepower you're needing to produce that resolution without splitting up the rendering into smaller chunks. The you would have the issue of printing the darn thing. Even if you could manage to get it open in photoshop - you wouldn't be able to print because of the memory needed by both the computer and the printer.

Thanks Aaron for the tips. It makes sense now. We are just new in the world of rendering thus the posted question.

Large renders in viz is no problem at all. I recently rendered an image 5x3 meters in size.
The key to it all is using zaps maxscript to divide the image into smaller manageable chunks. Then reassemble the image later in photoshop.

Remember it helps to have a second disk in photoshop as a skratch disk. I think the image turned to be a gigabyte in the end. Very hard to work with, so plan out before press your buttons or you may end up waiting for a while.

This could be just about anything...without really analyzing the scene its impossible to pinpoint what the actual problem is. My first question would be why does it have to be 300dpi? I would check with the printers to see what resolution they are printing at....and even then you could probably lower the res, somewhat, in the rendering and then up it in post. In moderation obviously. DR (distributed rendering) will help this but as i said...there could be something else going on in the scene that is causing this. Do you have the bitmap pager turned on? This helps if you are using really large texture maps. If its just for testing...maybe zip the file and post it on your site for us to take a look at. I'd like to see a screen cap of the scene you are rendering...i don;t think it should be a problem at all based on what i saw in the pdf.

Okay...i just looked at the machine specs more closely...you should have be having any problems at all. Post the file if you can. If you zip it or rar it it should come down in size considerably. Something weird is happening there.
