    Default Count Objects

    Hi,

I've asked before, but worded it badly. (Also THINK I've pinpointed exactly what I need.)

    1. I want to count all objects of a specified type in a drawing. (Electrical Devices)
    2. I want to include this in a schedule tag.
In the end, the tag would display something like "CIRCUIT 6, 15 DEVICES"

It would be really good if I could do this based on some criteria. (Layer or circuit, etc.) I really appreciate any help that anybody can give.

MEP 2008. I assume the principal would be the same reguardless, in this particular case.

If it were lisp, I would think that I could find the sslength (quantity) of a selection set based on the device name. Right?

I don't know what a "schedule tag" is. Is this something unique to MEP?

Will the Data Extraction tool work for you? It will count the number of selected objects and has a variety of output options.

No, schedule Tags are not new. They display property set data, and are used with doors, windows, walls, and electrical devices. (They work kinda like attributes) The tag will show the info next to the device (or door, or window, etc.)

So no, data extraction will not help. It might give me the info, but it won't display it on the drawing. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Schedule Tags may not be new, but they are not available to vanilla AutoCAD. It will probably require someone with access to the MEP vertical to help you further.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.
You will get a quicker response from your fellow AUGI members than if you sent it to me via a PM or email.

Thanks. Haven't used vanilla ACAD in a few years. Hope I didn't sound curt.

    Hi Kim
I have been working on this for you, but like I said I don't have MEP. I was still trying to work something basic, but now a schedule tag will need a MEP library I think, so maybe Ed can help you. Sorry I could be more help.
