Default Line based family with annotation nested

I have made a line based family to use as a light symbol for an electrical lighting plan. To start, I actually made a light family which is comprised of a recessed box containing a track lighting system. But, this is ceiling based and to date does not appear on my electrical "floor plan". so, I made a line based family using symbolic lines which I can use to quickly draw the track lights on that plan. Now, I want to nest an annotation label that will allow me to parametrically choose the label length of the light. The problem I have is that the annotation rotates with the line based family when I draw it. How do I keep the generic annotation horizontal? For that matter, how can i make it so that I can select the label and move it around in the project to keep it readable and out of the way of other lines (similar to dragging dimension text away from extension lines)?

    see attached....thanks.

You'd have to set up a tag to show the parameter info you want, and then place the tag(s) in the project, as opposed to nesting the info in a text note within the family.

You'd then be able to manipulate it's location in the view.

got it. I made a generic tag. I was hoping to have the label and the dynamic family work in tandem without the added step of tagging. But, it works well enough. Thanks.

How does it work when you want something to be tagged on insertion? Seen it before, and I think you want to use the Tag All Untagged option first.
So my guess is that you can associate a tag with certain types of objects, and have it tagged on insertion. But someone with more experience might want to discuss this in more detail.

For some families like doors and windows you can tick "tag on placement" in the options bar before placement.
This is regulated by the template and you have to have a tag associated with the object.
You can tag an object multiple times though. For instance one tag for fire rating and one tag for type mark of a certain door.
Tag on placement does not however work for all the available families e.g. not for components.
One of the many inconsistencies in revits UI.
