    Unhappy Redefine Block insertion point

I have a toolpallet created with a bunch of blocks I use on a daily basis.
Problem I have when inserting....arrggghh....the blocks are way out in left field.
How can I make it so that the blocks are not wherever they please on the
drawing plane? This is annoying because I always have to zoom out to find
the blocks and then move them to the location where they belong.

Sounds as if these blocks were made without regards to
their insertion point. I think you have two options.
Open the drawings and enter the BASE command and snap
to some point that would be a good insertion point.
Or open the drawing and select ALL, and move using Basepoint
and use 0,0 as the destination point.

Does the insertion process ask for an insertion point for the blocks or does it just throw them into the drawing?

Red face Re: Redefine Block insertion point

It just throws them into the drawing....I am using tool palletes and dragging the blocks into the drawing area.....base point seems to work.....I will provide an update after I have resaved and tried all my blocks.

    Hi

Check out the following Technical Documents on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

ID: TS21060 - Redefine base point of drawing

ID: TS21723 - Defining an insertion point as the default for inserting drawings and xrefs

ID: TP00104 - Use the BASE Command to Create a Block Insertion Point

Check out the following Submission # EX001146 by Richard Binning on the AUGI Exchange Page (hopefully it's a start in the right direction) -

Personally I would try and stay clear of the Base method (though it works), can quiet easily cause problems further down the line, especially if others have to work with your drawing files.

    Have a good one, Mike

I agree with Mike on not using the BASE command. I have also use a routine like Richard's before when I was cleaning a group of blocks from our consultants, at the end, it would also zoom .9x and save so you had a nice view for thumbnails.
It's a little bit of work cleaning the blocks, but do it once and there done...
