    Nice work...
I have no criticism, actually I have a question,
I have been trying to work out the best lighting settings to use for indoor scenes in 2007,
Could you tell me which shadow and lighting options you used on this render, they give a nice realistic feel to the render.
I assume the lights were positioned one above the desk and one behind the camera?
For an extra touch I would have added a skirting board (but maybe that country specific)

Nice touch with the monitor by the way

    thx
I render this with 2008, as 2007 could not give photometric lighting effect.
if you use 2007, there's should be more than 20 light sources (I usually use at least 28 light source for 4x4m room) to get the best result, but it still far if compared with 2008.
For this render I use 2 light sources on ceiling (height about 3.2m, room size 4x5m), incandescent lamp, intensity 0.1, light intensity 0.1 too.(don't forget to turn lighting unit to international/american to change to photometric lighting mode). render preset high, sampling rate 3 or 4, and of course GI & Final Gather turned on.
    Hope it will help you.

I am glad I wasn't doing anything wrong then..........

20 light sources!! that would take an age to render!!!
I have a quick machine (AMD X2 6400+ (3.2GHz) 2gig of fast RAM etc) but when I start adding lights the render time starts to get silly.

I assume they have fixed that in 2008 as you said it only took 30mins

I will continue to play...... I will get there........

    Hey my friend,
I have problem for rendering with 2008.When i was rendering with 2006 or older... I would get faster render time with surface model and slow render time with solid model. How i do to fast render with 2008.My laptop is core duro 1.6, 1G,graphic memory 256 and window vista.Attach image give render time about 15 minutes (final gathering is turn off).Next pls give best shadow type and setting.....Thk

no, I mean I did it without photometric light and usually only 4 that has shadow, others without shadow. rendering with my machine will take approx 5-10 mins

On my experience, render time only depending on transparent object, number of lights, number of shadows, type of shadow,GI & Final gather option, and number of ray traced.
if you want to reduce render time, reduce those factors.

i think 15 minutes is a reasonable time.

Nice work. Build me one of those desks. Nice, simple, and doesn't take up
    too much space.
