Default Cannot remove Excel spreadsheet reference 2008

I previously linked an excel spreadsheet to my drawing using AutoCAD 2008.

Realizing that I really should only be using this drawing in the 2004 file format, I tried to detach the spreadsheet. Previous to this I deleted the spreadsheet. So in AutoCAD 2008 I tried to detach it, but got a message indicating the file is not found. It did not give me the option to detach it.

Therefore I created a spreadsheet by the same name to see if it would then allow me to detach it. I got this message: “Cannot reload, detach or bind.”

Are there any suggestions on how to get rid of this?

It's possible the Dynamic Link is still set up for it. Try looking there first.

How were you trying to detach the spreadsheet through the data link manager or just deleting the linked table?

first if the table still existing right-click on a single cell then pick data link and detach data link. After the warning hit yes. use DATALINK command. hightlight the data link that was linked to table, right click then delete. hit ok on the data link manager. now erase the table. save the drawing. now delete the excel spreadsheet.

Enter in the data link manager at the Tools menu and delete it

Deleting it in the Data Link Manager did the trick.
I didn't even know it existed.
    Thanks

glad we could help. just remember to detach it from the table before you delete the table, data link, or Excel file. If you don't it can cause some corruption issues.

OK, so what if I did delete the tables and know I have the unreferenced .dxe files?

I cannot delete them from datalinkmanager. What can I do now?

You're right the link is saved as a dictionary object. You'll only be able to remove them using LISP (or other). Or what I've done previously is to save the DWG to DXF. Then open in a text editor and search for those DXE filenames - modify to suit. (You may be able to delete them as well, although this may create errors if you don't delete everything referring to them.) Then after you save - reopen the DXF and save back to DWG. This method is called "Hacking" - not a very good thing to do as you can mess-up the drawing pretty badly if you make only a single mistake ... only to be used as a last resort.
