    Cool Map5 versus AutoCAD 2002

    Hello,

We have stand-alone installs of AutoCAD2002 and Map5. When working on files
from a Windows server, during heavy file server usage times, we've noticed
occassional simultaneous stalling on the Map5 computers, while the
AutoCAD2002 computers are just fine. Is there any special setting in Map5 that
causes it to constantly check the file(s) that it currently has open ??

    Thanks

What drive aliases are mapped on the MAP machine?
Also, is this 'lag' noticed when switching layout tabs?
Or does the user have many entries in the My Network Places
    on the MAP machine?

Cool Re: Map5 versus AutoCAD 2002

We have the same standard (a dozen) drive mappings on all the computers.

The simultaneous lag isn't specific to any single or set of autocad commands.
(It would be unusual for all the Map5 computers to be running the same command all at the same time)

We'll try clearing out all of the Objects in "My Network Places".

    Thanks

Question Re: Map5 versus AutoCAD 2002

No dice. Any other ideas ?

(Perhaps there's a way to disable the drawing sharing capability in Map . . . )

Perhaps try editing your MAP options to limit the number
    of SQL conditions.
Or turn off the multi-user portion?
Perhaps even relocate the MAP log file off of that machine.

Or perhaps this is a good time to move your MAP data to a server that is
more robust and up to the task at hand. As you said during high traffic
periods, how many NIC's are in that server to serve the network?
What are you 'normal' ping, and read write times of an average file
    to the server.
