Edit annotation scale lists

Hi, from UK,
We have a problem with Autocad 2008 LT with x-refs in our drawings originating from others,
we have trouble loading drawings that bring in enormous scale lists which jam up the x-ref opening load, is there any way we can overcome this in 2008LT?
