Default spell check removes formating of text?

ok i did a text block and formated some items with bold and underline. blah blah blah did some more work, then realized i had a spelling error. did a spell check on the entire view and after it made a change, the formatting was gone.

    Legend view, arial narrow font.

    Anyone else experience this?

Been waiting patiently to see if anyone else uncovered anything related to an incredibly obscure problem with Revit and Arial Narrow. Cannot guarantee your spell check issue it part of this, but have you installed the most recent Microsoft Office Service Pack?

Attached is a clip from illustrating a problem that wreaked havoc in our projects. It is highly unusual for Microsoft to update fonts in a service pak but that it beside the point. This update "corrected" a problem with how Revit interprets Arial Narrow when set to Bold (different from Arial Narrow Bold). We did not notice the discrepancy 2 years ago when we decided to use Arial Narrow as our standard font. Because we checked Bold in a number of families used in Title Blocks, we had a mess.

Not sure how you can check this but I thought I would let you know there is something weird about Arial Narrow and Revit. And I cannot believe Microsoft "corrected" this for Revit so it must be a problem affecting other really obscure things.

Let me know what you discover.

Yes, I experienced it. Why, oh why is this so?

This and Phyliss's observations just add so much hassle. We also standardized on Arial Narrow.
I haven't seen any issues yet, but then we also haven't had any deadlines either.

    Thanks for the heads-up Phyllis.

I have reported this to the factory in the past (Aug 07.) Perhaps you should do the same. Maybe it will get fixed in the next release. If they can fix the leap year bug in < 8 days....

lol. too bad this is not an option that the factory can fix

i noticed that when arial narrow is set to bold that the text height is changed. i will send this to support and see what they come back with.

If you could specify a Width Factor for all pieces of Text, including dimensions, would any of you be inclined to switch to Arial as a standard with a width factor of say .8? Arial doesn't seem to have the issues with the Bold/Standard like Arial Narrow does.

I have never been a big fan of width factors. Too many Acad users liked to micro-adjust every piece of text and the drawings ended up looking like a drunkard had worked on them. But, that was more of a management issue than a software issue. So, if this can be easily implemented without taking too much programming time away from other improvements then I say go for it.

Width factors cannot be applied to text in dimensions at this time and that is where most, or many, really want to have narrower text, thus Arial Narrow.

hmm I changed my text to Arial Narrow, and set it to Bold and the vertical size did not change at all.

I also ran a spell check in a view with some text bolded and underlined, and it also did not affect the formatting.

Weird. I'm on the latest build (pe-bug fix for 200.
