I'm sorry I should have explained as others have that Revit was not started by Autodesk but acquired in April of 2002 after roughly 3 years of development by Revit Technology Corporation. Revit has always supported exporting to and import from AutoCAD. In the beginning via the Open dwg format (nobody except Autodesk can truly export to dwg format as it is proprietary, as Aaron pointed out in another thread) and now that Autodesk owns Revit is can export authentically.

Just to clarify my comment about a not being a "better dwg creator". The purpose of Revit is not to create dwg files. The purpose is to create building models and coordinated documentation (acronym "BIM", Building Information Model) within Revit's own file format and environment.

As an accommodation for differing work partners, you can provide acceptable background files, via export to dwg/dgn/dxf, for others to use as they carry out their work. To expect the exported files to pass for AutoCAD natively drafted files is currently beyond the intended scope of the export function.

All excuses aside, Revit wasn't tailored for any of us. One thing we should understand is that the visual presentation is just one way of reading the database, and the visual presentation can be altered just as well as all layer colors can be altered in AutoCAD.
Those layers in Revit are called subcategories by the way. They were preset and hardcoded to simplify interoperability.

Implementing Revit revolves around exploring it posibillities and take for granted that the best you can do is as good as it gets. There isn't any other way about it. It's up to you to find an acceptable way and look forward instead of back. Revit transforms you into a BIMmer but nobody said it was going to be easy.

Anyhow. You will either find a way or make one, trust me it's well worth the trouble.

    Hi Dzwevad

I agree with you, I also need to produce coloured technical drawings.

What I have tried to do, is get the line weights in Autocad to almost match with Revit and adapting the Autocad ctb to match Revit, it so happens to be all colour but using all black the results on line weights should be the same. It gets even more in sync from number 10. Most Architects only use the first 10 line weights/colours, (they are still stuck in the past). The office uses the full range of lineweights/colours, as shown below. To "see" what I am talking about have a look in the Autocad layer manager colour chart.

I have a spread sheet to see what colours actually did match up, I got bored one day.
I can supply a CTB file, Revit Lineweight txt file and DWG if you can make contact.

    Autocad ctb file setup
    10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and so on = 0.10
    11, 21, 31, 41, 51 and so on = 0.18
    12, 22, 32, 42, 52 and so on = 0.25
    13,14, 23,24, 33 and so on = 0.35
    15,16, 25,26, 35 and so on = 0.50
    17, 27, 37, 47, 57 and so on = 0.70

from 250 to 254 are the grey colours and reduce from 0.5 to 0.1, with 255 set to 0.25 for text

    REVIT/Autocad No

    1 0.10 1
    2 0.10 2
    3 0.18 3
    4 0.18 4
    5 0.25 5
    6 0.25 6
    7 0.35 7
    8 0.18 8
    9 0.10 9
    10 0.10 10
    11 0.18 11
    12 0.25 12
    13 0.35 13
    14 0.35 14
    15 0.50 15
    16 0.50 16
    17 0.70 17

I trust this might help, ease the problem, by the way it also works in Max and Lt.

    regards
    Adye

I understand very well what everyone is talking about. But I have the task of resolving this issue for my department. We use 2012 MEP and have to export to CAD, set the file up to be exported to DGN. If I do the setup in REVIT it would make my life easier, for now. Please send me the excel file and I'll go from there.

Well, I don`t know if you solved your problem, but I was facing the same problem (that`s why I found this thread) and I found a solution.
And because I left this tread opened in the browser, I decided to post what I found.Untitled1.png
I used this option in the export options in Revit. So I got exactly in CAD what i was seeing in Revit.
