monitor color adjustments

we just got in new pc's with LCD screens - a big upgrade for most people from CRT's that they had. prior to these new screens i had a 19" LCD that looks GREAT. i cant seem to get the new screen's color and bightness balanced out to reasonable levels without completely hosing another setting. if i get the brightness about where it doesnt hurt my eyes, the color is over done, if i get color right i loose a lot of definition in the far ends of the dark / light spectrum and its getting frustration. does anyone have any tips or useful software to fine tune some of this? i hate to not use the 22" screen in favor of a 19", but i like the old monitor's color that much more. currently have both hooked up in a dual config - which probably makes the differences that much more apparent

Which one is connected via DVI? Both? None? Our computers only have a single DVI so we have one using DVI and the other using analog. I've seen some subtle differences in color and brightness on other peoples machines.

Are both monitors the same brand. It might just be that your 19" is a better monitor all together.

If you were torn between a 19" or a 20" I'd tell you to stay with the 19" but a 22".....hard to pass up.

19" - dell

both are DVI with no adapters. ive played around with it for an hour or two and gotten better, but the 22" is still really red in places.

Well there you have it. Dell monitors are better than Gateways.
