Create Contour Layer Crashing ACAD

I'm doing AutoCAD Map 3d chapter 3 exersice.

I'm trying to create contours per the exercise and it keeps crashing acad. I've changed the specs on the contours and it works sometimes, other specs create the same crash.

Any thoughts? People having the same crash problems?

I've downloaded and installed the new service pack 2. Initially I thought that was the problem but I'm still getting the same errors.

Any help would be awesome.

Straight Map or Land Desktop?

I have the AutoCAD civil 3d 2008 program.

I was trying to create contours in the Map 3d geospatial workspace.

Does it work better in different workspaces?

Gee I don't know. I'm almost always in the C3D Workspace and it works fine. The contouring is part of your surface style. When exactly is it crashing on you in the process?

It generates the contours.......I see them on the screen. I try do a save or some other command and then I get the "Fatal error" window and it goes down in flames.
