Default Trim not trimming, extend not extending

We are using ACAD 2008. One of our users is using the basic TRIM and EXTEND commands, however the entities are not trimming or extending. He clicks on the entity to trim, and nothing happens. The layer is not locked. It is not a block. It is not an XREF. It is just a line crossing another line. Any suggestions? It is not drawing specific.
It requires a very unusual mind to undertake the analysis of the obvious.

Have you checked the trim/extend options (like projection and edge)?

    Yes. All are set correctly.

Would it be possible to post the drawing?

There shouldn't be any issues with trimming lines to other lines. You might select all objects in the drawing, then use the Properties palette to globally change the elevations of each object type to "0". See if that helps. Sometimes, it can be difficult to trim lines back to splined polylines or arcs.

Lines on top of lines? Try the overkill command.
