    Default 3DS Max Steps

I had a free day at work and I wanted to make a stone wall. This is what I ended up making. The building was somthing I did some time back in Land Desktop and Architecture 08. The steps I did in Land Desktop but everything else was in Max.

Very nice, indeed. I'm curious what technique you used for the stones: geometry, displacement, etc.?

For the stones I used a GeoSphere and made it an Octa type. I then made it a mesh and changed the shape that way. It is slow and inefficient but that is how I did it. In the past I have made stones by just adding the noise modifier to the sphere and then change the seed for each one. I wanted a little more control for each stone this time so added the edit mesh but it is slow.

I agree. Sometimes it's worth the time for more control. Greatt efect thought. Especially with the lighting on the rounded corners.

    Craig,

You could have also added an edit poly modifier and painted on the different deformations in realtime. Another potential way of doing it would be to model about 4 or 5 of them and use particle flow for distribution and randomizing as far as scale and rotation are concerned.

Ialso wrote an article on how to do rock walls using the Greeble plugin...though....the rocks are different then the image you have...which is great by the way!

I read your article but I'm using Max 2008 and I dont see a Greeble plugin for it yet. If there is an updated Greeble plugin please let me know.

    Craig,

Go over to Tom's site and grab the MAX 9 version...which works in 2008.

Then have some fun....its great little plugin to mess around with....think Death Star!!!

I did not know that. I'll go get the Max 9 plugin and give it a try.
