Default Bearing Walls Shaded, Non-Bearing Not...Please.

Revit's great at some things, but we cant' seem to get it to do some very simple things.

For instance, we can't get it to show a typical wall, with bearing walls shaded, non-bearing walls shown, but not shaded, and headers over openings as single bold lines...without a lot of display gymnastics on our end.

We've seen some tricks to getting some of the above done, but not witout creating issues in other areas.

If we have an additional hatch/shading over shaded walls, say for Overbuild Roof Framing, it creates another complexity- how the heck are these rather simple tasks in AutoCAD done with Revit???

Seems like it should be simpler than it is....

Perhaps it's because AutoCAD started as an Engineering tool that became an Architects Tool but Revit has been developed the other way around!

For the bearing/non-bering walls you should be using a filter. This filter should be part of a view template and in your office standards Revit template. It is quite simple and virtually automatic. Filters were designed for tasks exactly like this.

For the header, it depends on what you are using for the header. It sounds like your best path would be a header family that simply has a symbolic line showing. This again is simple to set up and once a part of your standards would require no extra effort.

How did you show overframing in AutoCAD? A hatch pattern over an area? Then a transparent filled region over that area is no more work than AutoCAD. And the filled region can be locked to building geometry so it automatically updates.
