Default '2D polylines' & 'polylines' display dofferent menus?

    Hi

    I've a drawing with both '2D polylines' & 'polylines'.
When I select them, so their grips are displayed, & right click different menus are displayed.
Only 'polylines' display the 'Convert to>' option.

Any idea what the differences are?

Is there a way to convert to 'polylines'?

I've got the PLINETYPE command set to 2 so all should be optimised

As far as I'm aware they were created the same way - individual lines joined together with pedit.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave F.

You won't get the "convert to" if you don't have a closed pline. A pline and a 2d pline are the same thing. You can't convert a 3d pline (non- planer object ie warpped) into a mass. It needs to be a flat pline.

    Thanks for replying.

Both types of my plines are closed.
I'm aware you can't convert a 3d pline. Mine are all in the World UCS plain, have no Z values, but do have different elevations.

I'm not convinced '2D polyline' & 'polylines' are the same. Please see attached & the thread I started in AutoCAD General forum when I realized it wasn't specific to ADT.

When were the 2d plines created? The same time the regular plines were?
Apparantly, the 2d plines are an old type of pline. I'm guessing they were created in an older version. LW plines (plinetype set to 2) is the new standard.

If you have a 2D polyline and want to convert it to a lightweight polyline follow these steps:
    1. At the command prompt, enter CONVERT.
    2. Then enter P.
    3. Then enter ALL.
All the 2D polylines in the drawings will be converted to lightweight polylines.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi

They were all created by me at the same time with the current version.

I maybe wrong, but I thought old polylines, even those drawn in a plane, displayed Z values. These 2D polylines do not.

Thanks for pointing out the convert command, but my understanding of the plinetype variable is that set to 2 it shouldn't be necessary.

    V. confusing.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I'll add this to the other 5,000 confusing things about ACAD!
At least you can convert them all in one easy step.

You can also convert them simply by double clicking on them to invoke the pedit command, even if you then just right click and cancel.

If plinetype is set to 0 then 2Dplines are created.

    Nice tip, Thanks.
