Question NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 - Issues

Trying to do 3D using AutoCAD 2008 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 - 3GB RAM - Quad core Xeon processor Dell pc.
Having a few issues with crashes and screen glitches when trying to constrained orbit etc.
Dont see this card on the certified list as yet.
Installed service pack 1 for AutoCAD 2008 and it showed a slight improvement
Anyone out there know of any settings I might try and adjust to make life easier.
Think I have the latest driver from the NVIDIA Website.

Is it possible I'm blaming the video card when the problem is elsewhere.
Not an expert so keep the answers Idot proof........

If its hard to do then your doing it wrong.........

I can tell you that I have a non-certified Nvidia Card.

Name : NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS
    Manufacturer : NVIDIA
Chip set : GeForce 6800 GS
    Memory : 256.0 MB
    Driver : 6.14.0011.6250

When I turn hardware acceleration, things go screwy. When I turn it off, it's ok. ie don't use the card.

I know this dosen't help, but I think you are looking in the correct direction.

Sally, the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 is a 2D card. The FX series cards are the 3D ones. I'm about to order a Dell machine with duel cards for a quad display setup and will be choosing the slightly more expensive entry 3D FX 570's for those rare times I will do 3D. You can upgrade to a 3D card fairly cheaply I believe (< $200). I'm a former Autodesk applications engineer and know my way around all of the products. Hope this helps.

I agree. I just got my Dell and it had an NVS 290. I told IT to get the FX570, but he forgot.

Anyway, we purchased the 570 and it is much better. I kept the NVS 290 in so I can run a third monitor for my ribbon and toolbars. It works okay. I'd say upgrading the video card would be your best solution.

I know it has been a while since you've been on but i had a few questions about video cards and Revit 2009. I didn't know if I could contact you to get your opinion on specs for Revit and future of OGL, thanks.

    Bruce

P.S. I'm using an account from the CAD IT support at the company I work for so please PM this dranieri account so he can pass along your contact information since I can't seem to find where to sign up so I can post, thanks...
