Default Ability to create non associative or independent views

Summary: Often times we need to set up an option to make an sk that needs to be independent of the model, but the only way to do this is to manually trace over the view. What we need is to have an option for a view to freeze and disassociate from the model.

Description: Ability to create non associative or independent views.

How Used: Often times we need to set up an option to make an sk that needs to be independent of the model, but the only way to do this is to manually trace over the view. What we need is to have an option for a view to freeze and disassociate from the model.
This is a very good feature that is available in ArchiCAD I believe and I see it being very helpful. Please email me if this is not clear. thanks

There is an extension for Revit Structure called Freeze Drawing that will do this, but I think this should be a Platform tool available to any Revit.

But, there is a manual way to do this, which is what Freeze Drawing automates for us. Basically, go to your view, and export that view out to a 2D DWG. Then create a drafting view and import the DWG into the drafting view. You now have a static view that you can work on/over.

Thanks Scott! Yes, something like the Freeze Drawing feature is what I'm looking for.

I don't want to work in Autocad. I don't want to give up my car for a horse and buggy either.

With creating a DWG from Revit and bringing it into a drafting view, you don't even need AutoCAD installed.

    Scott,

It all sounds great. I guess the question still remains, why isn't this tool available for Revit Architecture?

Here we go again making assumptions about who needs what tools. Sorry, but I can't help it

The Freeze Drawing tool was originally create by Robobat for Revit Structures. Autodesk made no assumptions about it because it wasn't our tool. Now that we own Robobat, we are looking into many of the tools they made and how they might benefit the other flavors of Revit. I would expect that many of these tools will become usable on any flavor.

Thanks Scott, hope that will happen. We want Revit to be the best it can possibly be so don't take such comments as mindless griping (well, not always at least).

    Good news Scott
Now lets hope Autodesk go beyond just reviewing possible 'pltaform' extensions and take a good hard look at many of the other bits of functionlity that people have had issues with in many of the recent threads between the 3 different products.
