Default Layer Manager and AutoCAD 2008

I am switching from AutoCAD 2000 to AutoCAD 2008 and layer manger changed from an express tools thing to a part of 2008. I think I am having trouble in the conversion.

When I change the layer state in paper space, the layers that are supposed to turn on / unfreeze, do. The layers that were supposed to be turned off / frozen do not. Basically, I get the previous layer state with the new layers turned on/unfrozen. The only way to get it to work is to go to model space, change the layer state (and it changes like it is supposed to) and then look at the correct tab in paper space. Is there a fix for this?

not too sure what u mean here, but have u tried a REGEN in the viewport in paperspace?

also, i had a problem where a layer in the viewport wasnt staying on / off.

i used VISRETAIN and set the value to 1 from 0 and that seemed to work for my viewport problems.

    hope this helps

EDIT: also, hi and welcome to the forum. noticed its your first post

if you open the layer manager while you are in the layout tab you will notice an extra column called "freeze in viewport" is this on or off?

I found this bug once upon a time, my work around was to restore the layerstate in modelspace and then switch to paperspace. It has nothing to do with the switch, I think it has more to do with the layer by viewport functionality.
