Default Trim a Wall to a Break Line

    Hello AUGI Members,

Is it possible to trim or extend a wall element to a break line that is made of a polyline....??

If not how would one be able to simulate the effect of trimming a wall to a break line....??

    Any assistance would be appreciated....!

    Regards,
    Vince

Are you trying to trim it to the angle of the break mark? I can only think of 2 ways to do this:

    1. Trim the wall like normal and add a body modifier to fill in up to the angle of the break mark or
    2. Create a wall endcap style. Trim the wall and overide the endcap style on that end with the new one.

    Dzatto,

    Thank you for your response....!

I was able to accomplish this but it created another question. Can I change the color (thickness) of the break line endcap....?? Usually a breakline is lighter than the wall line and using the method you described the endcap will be the same color (thickness) as the wall line.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Regards,
    Vince

Now that's a good question. I'm assuming you used the endcap method? I don't think you can change just one end of the line weight. If you change it, it will be for the entire wall. I'll look into it further and let you know.

Ah, here's what you can do, maybe. Okay, when you create your endcap style, you start with polylines right? Well, change the thickness of the pline segment that overlaps the break mark to anything but 0. That way, when you create the endcap, any pline with a thickness doesn't produce a line in the wall component. So your wall will basically be open on that end. Now your only line will be the one for the break line.

I hope that's not too confusing. It should work. Let me know.

If you created an endcap style set from plines you can set it from plines with a width to remove the ends.

You may also want to try using a wipeout or masking blocks instead of using endcaps.

EDIT: Nevermind speedy gonzales beat me to it.

Ondalay Ondalay!!!!! (or however you spell it).

In all fairness, H'Angus taught me everything I know about endcaps.

A better (or easier) option would be to use an AEC Polygon with a background mask. There are ootb tools already set up to do this, open up the content browser and do a search for 'CUT TOOL'.

Oh I'm not sure that's completely true

This is how I do it, I'll have to check into some of the other ideas posted to see if its a better way though. So far this works for me and is pretty simple.

add a layer called 'mass elements frozen' or something like that. Then add a mass element that completely encloses the part of the wall you are trimming. Right click the wall, Interference Condition, add, then select the mass element, subtract. Now put the mass element on the layer you created and freeze it.

Yep that's another option, I would take a look at using the cut tool included ootb though, it's basically an Aecpolygon in the shape of a parallelogram with the jog on one edge, the other edges turned off and a masked background. One click to insert and one click to place/
