Default Can you lock views so they can't be deleted???

Is there a way to be able to 'lock' views so that they can't be deleted???

I am aware of the pin objects button, but this doesn't stop them being deleted.

I have a feeling the answer is no, and it is a matter of the user being aware of this, but thought I would ask the question anyway.

Thanks for you help in advance

If you have the view in a viewport, lock the viewport, and put the viewport on a particular layer and lock that layer. The viewport won't be deleted, or moved, etc. Maybe this will help? I know a viewport isn't a view.

You can't do that in Revit. There's no layers in Revit. You are probably talking about AutoCAD.

Yes, when reading bbenton.91765 reply, I thought that it sounded much like an Autocad locking layers.

Andre, this is what I suspected thought, that you can't lock the viewport & that it is more of a user be-aware type situation.

    Thanks for your help

well you can if you are working with worksets
you can assign a vieworkset to a imaginary user (BIM Leader) and make it editable
so it will be lockt till the user makes it noneditable again

I have thought about that option as well, but one of the post I read suggested not using worksets like this, as that is not how they were designed to be used.

I understand what your saying and it is a good suggestion, but I now think it should be more about the user being more careful about what they delete and not due to the parametric nature of Revit.

MRuehr what are your thoughts on that?

well true but we are human, how many times have i moved a camera View in a moment
off guard. i agree with the notions work-sets should not be used for visibility controls.
but assigning views to users is often useful particularly when annotating .
as well recommended practice. so one more step and locking them to a user seems save for me. we do it for grids why not for special views?

Thumbs up Re: Can you lock views so they can't be deleted???

Thanks for your thoughts on that. You certainly have a couple of good points there to consider for the next job that is being setup with worksets.

I must admit that I agree with you about having a seperate workset for grids and levels, so why not for specialised views.
