    Default Section through a surface

Can anyone suggest the best way to do a cross section through surfaces? I have a surveyed ground surface and a design surface, and I neew to produce earthworks cross-sections. I'm just starting with Civil 3D so I haven't found my way around all the features yet. At the moment I'm doing it as a road profile, but I can't help feeling there should be a more direct way to do it.

    Any suggestions?

Tutorial: Displaying Cross Sections on an Alignment is the tutorial with-in civil 3d for sections. I'm sorry that I don't have time to explain the process here but I have found the tutorials to be helpful explaning the basics.

Go into your Sections menu, choose Create Sample Lines. Pick the stations along the alignment that you want to show as a section and choose how big you want your section view.
If you have multiple sample lines on one profile, you can choose to Create Multiple Sections Views, if not, just choose the Create Section View option (both in the Sections pull-down menu). Then choose the area you want your sections in and you're done.

Thanks for the replies. I did have a look at that tutorial, but it still means creating a road where there isn't one, which is what I was trying to avoid, just for tidyness. But it doesn't really matter - I can just hide the alignment. I think what I really want is something like the quick profile, but permanent. But presumably there is no such tool.
