Default 2009 Layer resetting to zero

We are having a problem with our layers resetting to zero when we open drawings after being saved, switch between block editor and model space, and I'm sure a few other places. Any ideas on how to end this or what might be causing it? I don't remember it ever being a problem before.

That's right, our current layer keeps getting reset to zero. Not sure what's causing it, but wish it would stop.

Nope, none that I know of. I am relatively new to this company, but I dont' believe so. We use inventor and mechanical desktop. I normally chose to use the AutoCAD classic desktop because so far, I don't need anything else for what I do, but it's doing it to everyone.

That's really odd. I switched between the Block Editor, XREF In-Place Editor, and the regular session a lot on Friday. Not once, did I experience that. Try using a completely naked template (i.e. acad.dwt), and see if you have the same problem. I'm siding with John that it must be some customization or default setting somewhere in your setup.
