    Default Acad 2009 install

I'm not a geek, but I have become the nearest thing to the IT guy in a small eng/design office, which includes the title of Official AutoCAD Guy. We just got our subscription update cd for 2009 and I have a question:

Dell Dimension 8300 units, P4 with 512mb RAM. Can plain vanilla OOB Acad 2009 (2d work only) even be installed on these machines w/o upping RAM? Please don't ask why I want to do this; I don't want to. I'm just trying to find out if it's even possible.

Yes, I installed it on a Dell 8250 with a P4 and 512 RAM while I was waiting on the funds for a new machine. It worked, but very slowly.

Might be worth a try, then. I need a day or three to get it up and running and make sure all the legacy routines and other stuff to migrate from 2008 work okay before I put it on other machines. I don't have to actually make drawings with it, just get it installed, and we are between jobs, so I have the time, for a change. Hopefully we will all have 2G of ram in a few days.
    Thanks

    Question Re: Acad 2009 install

Can anyone tell me where I look to find this info on my machine?

1,280 x 1,024 32-bit color video display adapter (true color) 128 MB or greater, OpenGL®, or Direct3D® capable workstation class graphics card. For Windows Vista, a Direct3D capable workstation class graphics card with 128 MB or greater is required.

I am new to Vista and am trying to like it. I tried to load Autocad 2009 and it will not load. I get a message that says cannot load this program on this operating system. All of the other system requirements are met, but I don't know where to look to find the above.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Right-click on a blank area of the desktop. Pick "properties", pick "settings". That should show you what graphics card you have and the current pixel and colour resolutions and allow you to change them.

What is wrong with being a geek. Take the title with pride.
