Default AutoCAD Message "CUI file 'acad.cui' is write protected."

I've been using AutoCAD 2000, but I'm trying to learn 2007 now. I keep getting this AutoCAD Message "CUI file 'acad.cui' is write protected" every time I change the workspace. And it pops up twice when I close AutoCAD. It started when I created layers and it didn't even save all the layers. Please someone help me with this it's driving me crazy. I'm sure it's something fairly simple, but I just can't figure it out. Thanks...

Well, first off -- "is" acad.cui actually write protected?

If you have it set to save your workspace changes automatically, then it tries to write to the menu at workspace change and at shutdown and if it's read-only, it can't do it.

It sounds like Acad.cui is part of the enterprise structure, in addition to being your main CUI file. That would cause this behavior. If Acad.cui is supposed to be part of the enterprise structure, make sure your main CUI file is something different.

I did have it set to automatically save the workspaces. I turned it off and the message stopped popping up. I knew it was probably something easy to fix. Thanks you all!

Well, this means that you have a larger issue. The main CUI should never be read-only. If you want to protect Acad.cui you should place it in the enterprise CUI structure, or make Acad.cui partial to another main CUI file and then use the OS to write-protect the file. But the main CUI file, the first one in the node, the one listed as main in Options, must be writable. If it is not, you are going to run into problems every time you attempt to modify the UI.
