Custom lookup tables

Has anyone tried creating a custom lookup table within a family? I know it can be done, but it seems that all the examples I have found all deal with a length parameter. What I would like to do is have a lookup table for wire size and conduit based on a given horsepower size.

Anyone with any ideas?

I've made them for pipe fittings. But I don't think you can for wiresizes (someone correct me please) as wires are system based families that rely on the wiresizes.xml file. It would be nice for us here too if you could use tables to drive wire sizing, ground wires etc etc.
