Default Physical properties of Surface parts in Inventor

    Hello,

Inventor has a option of giving phyical properties of a solid part.

why doesn't it give the same option for surface parts, it could atleast give the area of a surface part if not volume and mass.

am i missing something here or there is no way to get physical properties of surface parts.

i have a hollow cylinder modeled as a surface part, and i know that area of that part would be equal to circumference.

but why would inventor not show that in its properties.

when i go to a physical properties tab of a surface part, it show N/A.

i think new versions of inventor should also show the physical properties of surface parts.

    please help.

    thanks,

    avani

How can inventor do that job?
Suppose that there is line, length is 20 inch, another line, 25 inch,
can we say 25 inch line is heavier than 20 inch line?

The same to the surface part. You can treat surface as a combination of many lines,
there is no weight. Cause it is as thin as you can thought. So you can not apply for physical property on it.

My experience told me, the use of surface part in the most time is the skeleton of your model. or a close surface to solidify it to get the complex solid part.

Tools>Measure Area and click surface, add them up if more than one.

    Why not convert to solids?
