I am new to Inventor 2008. I am trying to put diameter dimensions on items either side of a centreline to create revolved features in 2D sketch mode. Inventor won't let me do this. Can anyone give me advice on this?

Sorry for taking so long to respond... I missed this post for some reason...
In a sketch, toggle on "Centerline" mode, and create a line to be used as the revolution axis. (You can also create the axis first or use an existing line, and then change it to a centerline.) When you place the dimension, select the centerline axis first, then the other geometry. This will create a diametric dimension about the centerline axis.
When you create the revolution, Inventor will automatically select the open or closed profile and revolve it around the centerline (at least it does in 200. (See screenshots)
Is this what you are looking for?
