    Default Creating Survey Points

    Greetings to all! I'm new to Land Desktop 2008 and I hope you can help me with this...

    I'm given a .dwg with survey data - basically height values i.e. "62.43" or "60.35" scattered over the plot. How do I conveniently create POINTS at each height value with the corresponding Z-value? e.g. at "62.43", a point is created with z-value 62.43.

    With these points, I am able to use Terrain Modeller to create and build the surface as the Existing Surface layer.

    I hope I'm making sense. Please help.

    Too bad you don't have Carlson right now, you could build the surface right from the text....

    You can use this function to create an ASCII file of points, that you can add to the surface source data.

    Code:

    (defun C:TXT2CSV ( / EAS ELV ENT FP I J LST NOR SSET)
      (setq sset (ssget '((0 . "TEXT"))))
      (if (not (zerop (setq i (sslength sset))))
        (progn
          (setq fp (open (strcat (getenv "temp") "\\txt2csv.csv") "w"))
          (setq lst '() j 0)
          (repeat i
            (setq ent (entget (ssname sset j))
                  elv (cdr (assoc 1 ent))
                  nor (caddr (assoc 10 ent))
                  eas (cadr (assoc 10 ent))
                  j (1+ j)
            )
            (write-line (strcat (rtos nor 2 8) "," (rtos eas 2 8) "," elv) fp)
          )
          (close fp)
        )
      )
      (princ)
    )

    ;;;Output file is written to your %temp% directory.

    Thank you for the function, rkmcswain. How do I use the function in Land Desktop 2008 to create the text surface data to the points? What's a Carlson?

    Follow this link - which will show you how to load and use lisp code.

    This function only creates a CSV file, which you can then add to your surface as source data.

    Carlson is a civil/survey application. See http://www.carlsonsw.com

    I must have missed something. What type of data were you given? Is this text with an elevation (z value) like RK stated? If so, you can create a surface from it in LDT without converting it to points.

    In the Terrain Model Explorer right-click on Point Files and pick Add Points from AutoCAD Objects > Text.

    Hello jpaulsen. Here's my situation. It's a .dwg survey plot and has the survey heights scattered all over the map.

    Thanks for the tip, I will give it a shot tomorrow at work.

    Hi seanlzq,

    I still don't have answer to my question.

    What type of AutoCAD objects are used to display these "survey heights"? Are they blocks, text, AutoCAD points?

    If it is any of those, you will be able to use them as terrain surface data. Just pick the appropriate data type under Add Points from AutoCAD Objects.

    Hopefully this works for you.

    Sorry.. the survey heights (is there a better term for this) are in the form of text. I'll keep you guys updated.

    Thank you both for being so helpful.

    But only if the TEXT entities are at the same elevation contained in the string itself.

    And there's where my problem comes in because the text entities and the z-values do not match by a mile.

    I went through the AutoLisp FAQ, what can I expect when I run the function you gave me? I hope to get everything up and running tomorrow.
