I was wondering what peoples experiences where with joists in their analytical software. I am wondering if there is any effects that when you model in a k series joist the insertion point is the top of joist and not the bearing point. I have noticed that when I move the joist up so that i have the correct bearing condition that the analytical line moves up also. Does that have any effect or should analysis line be at the top of beam. The main reason that i am asking is I have been working on joist families for k, lh and dlh series joists that have independent top chord extenstion with type "S" and "R", independent joist seat depths, independent bottom chord extensions and am wondering if i change the insertion point and analitical line to the bearing conditions is that going to cause problems. I have never understood why joists have the insertion point they do out of the box or am I going about modeling them in the wrong manner.
