    Default Cellular Beams

    Hi,

Has anyone had any joy with using cellular beams? I've been trying to modify the cellular beam family from the metric library, but I can't get the depth right. So, I tried to add a void to a standard beam family, but when I try to add a parameter to the void it says the section is over constrained!

Any ideas/help would be very much appreciated, as it's driving me mad!

    Thanks,

    Emma.

    Emma,

It will be a good idea posting your family, so we can see why your void is being over-constrained.

However, You can also try to explain more about why you can't get the depth right when trying to modify the Metric Family.

They are two different problems and then you can judge which one will be easier for you.

    Hi Andre,

    Thanks for your quick response.

I've attached m_cellular beam.rfa which is the family from the metric library. In the family types d1 and d2 don't add up to d. If you change the formula to d1 + d2 = d the numbers look right, but it doesn't actually measure the correct depth.

I've solved the other problem, but I'm now having trouble getting an array to work how I want it to! I want to be able to state the spacing dimension and the start dim from the end of the beam, but whatever I do it doesn't work exactly how I want it to. Have you used arrays before?

    Thanks,

    Emma.

    Emma,

You can try it now. Just type the depth you want under the parameter d.
If you want to change the radius, change the parameter Do. If you want to change the distance between the circles, change the parameter S.

    I hope it helps.

    Hi,
i'm having some trouble with this. ive posted on another forum but still slightly confused, still new to Revit!
i have amended the OOTB cell beam to the size i want and the holes spacing etc., problem i have is when i have two beams, one from column to column and one from column to core wall, the holes on elevation dont align (see attached images and family)

    column to column.jpg
    core wall to column.jpg
    error.jpg
    Cellular Beam BH.rfa

Can anyone point me in the right direction or explain how i can over come this problem?, i'd like to place the beam anywhere on the model but sill have the holes line up on elevation so M&E gys have a straight run of pipes etc......i guess it can be done??

    many thanks

I have a feeling that these are set up just like the bar joists. There's no way to easily get them to align since the cut length is different.
I haven't played much with the cellular beams, but here's just an idea. What happens if you adjust the end offset so it matches the length at the beam to beam/ beam to wall condition. Bar joist have an "Seat Extension" parameter that allows you to adjust the length of the joist without re-spacing the panel points. I'm thinking you'd have to do something like that.
    Just a thought.

I have a problem using the cellular beam in revit, after editing the dimension of the cellular beam it's only applied in 30 m but when i try to apply it on 4 m beam it doesn't work and it gives me an error of arraynum .. any one know how to edit the array num ?
