Unhappy Joined Geometry Looses Level of Detail Settings

I have two line-based families that I'm placing to create some complex cornice and trim work. These are build to adjust based on level of detail, and when placed everything looks fine. However, if I join two of these families to, for instnace, clean up a corner, they "drop back" to the coarse level of deatail and will not display the fine detail regardless of view settings, and will not "come back" even after I unjoin them (super annoying)

I've tried different pick orders to no avail. I also searched the forums and found this post: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.ph...+course+detail
    but no solutions.

    David,

I am sorry to acknowledge that we are aware of this limitation and considered removing it, but it has not happened yet. I hope in a future version we will be able to display fine details in joined family instances too.
