Whenever I assign a material to an instanced or referenced object, all of the instances or references get the same material assigned. I thought that the material assignment was not shared among instances. Is there a setting that I don't have set correctly? Is this the correct behavior?
In the second Modeling Tutorial that comes with the disc, called Modeling Buildings Using Modifiers, a building is created by referencing a box with various modifiers to make the shell, glazing, and mullions of the building. At the last step, the user is to assign three different materials to the objects.
How is this to work if the three objects are references and share the same material?
