    Default Construction Lines

How is the easiest way to create construction lines or circles for families? These would be lines that do not show up on an extrusion or revolve. Also, is there a way to make your snaps stay in place. Many times I snap to a midpoint or axis, but on the next family model, the snap is gone and I have to hard dimension it. Thanks for the help.

The "construction lines" in Revit (and specially in families) are the reference planes or reference lines. They will show on the family but will be invisible once the family is loaded into the project. They won't print.

Regarding the snap issue, I couldn't understand what's going on. Can you explain it better?

Thanks for the Reference line help. I saw that but since they showed up on the family, I assumed the showed up in the project. That is good to know. As far as snap seetings, let's say I have a cube drawn. If I want to revolve a cone on tope of it, I will use the snaps to align my axis to the midpoint of the top edge of the cube, but when I change the size of the cube, the axis will loose it's reference to the midpoint. This shifts the cone off to one side of the part. Should I use the align command everytime or should the snaps work okay? Thanks again.

That's an example where reference planes are very handy. Let's say you have 3 reference planes: You can align and lock one edge of the cube sketch to the left reference plane and the other to the right reference plane. Then you can add an EQ dimension to make the central reference plane stay always at the center. The same center reference plane can be used to sketch your cone. Don't forget to always lock things you want to respect constrains.

Also, when adding dimensions, do it from reference planes and not from objects or sketches.
