Default Civil 2006 vs Civil 3D

    Hi all,

Where would I find the function which is equivalent or better than the Grading Wizard...???

I do a lot of site grading with LDD and Civil 2006 Grading Wizard. This function is great for sloping between existing ground and new finished pads.

Is the a function or something in Civil 3D which does this. I have tried to worked with Civil 3D but I haven't been able to find this equivalent function.

    Thanks

Depending on your conditions and the layout of whatever you are working on, that can be accomplished with Feature Lines and/or 3D-Polylines added to surfaces as breaklines, with Grading Objects, and/or with Corridors. Typically a combination of some or all of the above will be used to model a complete site.

To create a Civil 3D Grading Object you can go to Grading > Create Grading.

Now one thing I should mention is that Grading Objects tend to be a little hairy in Civil 3D (ie DWG errors and such).

Like you I used to use the heck out of Grading Objects, but since migrating to Civil 3D my first weapon of choice is the Feature Line, generally followed by the corridor, and finally the grading object. Feature Lines are like 3D Polylines on steroids, it's amazing what you can do with them. C3D 09 even lets you target them from an alignment/corridor.
