Default Beam Snap point when on a reference plane.

    See the Example.jpg attached below.

So I've got a shed roof built. I've attached the columns to the roof with Attachment Justification at Top as Intersect Midline. I set my reference Plane to the bottom of the roof. When I create a beam it won't select the top of the column, it picks an inch or so off of it as its end point. Any ideas why? I'd like the beam to be attached to the roof and not 3d to the top of the column.

Weird. I just don't understand how Revit decides that this location is the 'end'.

It could be connecting with the analytical model of the column I would imagine, can you use the extend tools to extend the model elements past the options you have, there should be a shape handle (the two arrows) you can grab and override the current option, that will allow you to drag the model element past while keeping the linework and analytical in the correct location.

Any other thoughts on this? Does this seem to be doing the 'right' thing to you?

If thats all thats in the file can you post it so we can get a look and possibly get it back to you, if it's just to column and two posts with the notes in the file I'm sure someone will be able to give you much better feedback regarding this.

Sure, I just mocked this up. Try drawing a beam, attached to the roof between both of the columns. I can't get the snaps to put it in the right spot. I must be doing something wrong.

Btw... this is a 2008 format file.
