All,
I just heard a rumor (and for many reasons I am assuming it is just that) that Autodesk will be phasing out AutoCAD by 2010.
Please let me know if you have heard the same thing, or have any real proof that this will happen.
Thanks,
Jeff

And what do you feel they will replace it with?
I believe this to be a rumor.

Maybe they were talking about a specific release being no longer supported. I doubt this has anything to do with the world ending in 2012, though.
Unless I'm the only drafter who does civil, electrical, & architectural, they can't very easily quit making ACAD.
I had heard that the Land Desktop is going to be covered by the Civil 3D.
Give people a job worth doing, the tools to do it, recognition of a job well done & get out of the way.
I heard the rumor too, that BIM's like Revit and other 3D/verticals will be what Autodesk will be pushing, and phasing out (not supporting) AutoCAD.
I find that hard to believe, I'm not too worried. AutoCAD will be around in some form or another for a long, long time.
At least until I retire in about 20+ years (I hope).
I hope they use the next two years to fix what is broken and stop adding bloat. I think we have all we need with r2009 (or 2002 for that matter). I would be nice to stop upgrading every year and just get work done. The more I type the more I like the idea of AutoCAD development stopping. No more subscription costs, everyone will be on the same release, or more so than the current yearly upgrades, no more re-doing customization, no more upgrading add-ons, no more training on the new release, no more new bugs (features), mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Now that I think about it some more, I think they are getting away from major releases and instead will offer smaller service packs through subscription. Perhaps that is where the rumor started.

I could get along without AutoCAD.....as long as Revit could draw lines as fast as AutoCAD...

I don't see Revit as being much use to draw machinery.
So I should move to Inventor? But then I might look further afield; there are lots of other packages.
