Seriously though, I thought there had been no notifications as I have never received a notify (and it is set to on with daily checks). Is this a known issue, or should I report the fault?

Assuming you've provided the settings the comm center needs it should work. It just isn't aggressive about getting your attention though. It just adds a little yellow exclamation mark to the satellite dish image so you actually have to look at it and click on it to see what's up.

I had a balloon pop up this morning as soon as I opened 2009, and then later today when I opened 2008. There is a check box to enable balloon notification in the Settings, so make sure that is checked.
