    Cool Automatic update Fields

I've inserted a field with the date on the title block ate the paper space, but it doesn't update automatically!!!! I've tried to enable to update when we regen, save, open... at the options box, but it doesn't work. I need to enter the updatefield command every time.
Does anybody know how to do it!
    It is driving me nuts!
    Thanks!

The Date field won't update until you invoke Updatefield... by design; no way around it that I know of.
    From Help
    UPDATEFIELD

Manually updates fields in selected objects in the drawing

Menu: Tools Update FieldsAt the Command prompt, enter updatefield.
Shortcut menu: With any text command active and a field selected, right-click and click Update Field.
    Command entry: updatefield
Select objects: Use an object selection method or enter all to select all fields in the drawing

Fields in selected objects are updated.

NoteThe Date field is updated by UPDATEFIELD, but it is not updated automatically based on the setting of the FIELDEVAL system variable.

I have a remote text object on my border which is xrefed into my paper space of each drawing that has the date and time. Any open, save, print, regen, etc will update. If you need help on that I can show you how I did it.

The Date field, by design, is supposed to update only when explicitly selected for an update. That way you can set a date, and the next time you open the file it won't update unless you intend it.

However, in most cases I find that people don't use the PlotDate field, when it does exactly what they want. Granted, the field won't populate until the first time you plot, but that field does automatically update upon each plot.

Remote Text should not be used. Fields are the intended replacement of Express Tool's RText.

Here is the 24x36 border I have been using for years. The bottom left corner of the sheet has the remote text that updates automatically. Has worked great for me for years and is still working great. You do have to have the express tools installed in order for it to work though. Tell me what you think.

That is one of the problems with RText. The other is that it prevents VBA iteration thru the drawing's objects.
