Unhappy Placing dimensions in the 3D view

I am trying to place the vertical dimansions of the walls in the 3D view by using the aligned dimensions.
However, it always places the two dimensions in the same vertical plane, which does not allow me to dimension the walls that are physically separated in the model.
Any hint on how to fix this.
I tried to move the dimension by moving the witness lines, but it still moves the witness line in the same vertical plane as mentined above.

    Thank you.

You have to define your work plane first.
