    Default Font Substitution

    Hi all,

Has anyone come across this problem before?

All morning ACAD 09 works fine until it opens this one file (AS601). The file opens with a font substitution (simplex) for a custom font. Subsequent files that are opened also show the substitution font. If we don't save the subsequent files, close and open ACAD, open the same file, they're fine. But once AS601 is opened, and not even saved, the font substitution follows.

Could this be a system variable gone "rogue"? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Vivian

Are all of these files in the same directory?
    Is AS601 by itself?
Where is the font in question located?
    What is FONTALT set to?

    Hi rkmcswain,

Thank you for your quick response.

All the files are located in a single project folder.

The fonts are in \Program Files\AutoCAD 2009\fonts and the support file search path is pointed there. All our fonts including custom ones are located there.

    FONTALT is set to simplex.

    Hi rkmcswain,

It's fixed. I don't know why or how but here's the steps.

I changed FontAlt from simplex to . (that's a period).
Font came in great but the font substitution box came up for other fonts I had in a previous version of ACAD and didn't need anymore (or so I thought).
When I changed FontAlt back to simplex it had the same problems as before. So I changed simplex back to . (that's a period).

I copied the old fonts to the ACAD 09 fonts folder (which had the problematic font in it from the start) and wha-la! It's okay now. Even when I change FontAlt to simplex. Go figure.

Thank you for your help. I wouldn't have looked at FontAlt until you mentioned it.

    Regards,
    Vivian

Thanks, I had the same problem, just installed 2009

I have a number of custom fonts (all shx) that I use, When I opened an old drawing all custom fonts except one were ok, (all custom fonts are in the same directory, which is in the support file search path) .. said it couldn't find the font file and substituted simplex.

When I edited the text with the text editor it appeared as it should, but when displayed in the drawing it used simplex.

I even tried creating a new style in a new drawing using the font file (which appeared in the pick list) and it displayed on screen using simplex.

setting fontalt to "leroy" which is the problem worked, also setting fontalt to "." worked

    Strange
