Named Model Views and Xrefs

We are trying to determine which method of attaching xrefs to use as a standard and I would like to know if anybody knows how AutoCAD attaches named views to a drawing. Fixed Path? Relative Path? No Path?

It looks like all of mine are being attached as relative paths.
