Large Site slow processing

Hi All,

I'm currently working on a site plan that is about 3 km by 5 km. We have added topography & subregions to the site as well. Every time we go in to add a new subregion or modify the topo, the computer takes forever to regenerate the model. Is there something I can do to speed up the processing?

Is your site a separated file? If not you could try it and then linking it into your building file. Once I had a huge site that I had to split in several different topos to deal with slow regeneration issues.

Hi Andre,

No, our site is in the same file as the buildings. Most of the buildings are just massing to represent potential growth on this site. How do I break out the site the easiest way? I was thinking of opening a file detached from central and delete everything not site elements.

Is there a better way?

First simplify the surface(pick the surface, click edit) then you'll see the simplify tool. Try the largest value you are comfortable with. The reason it is slow is because of all the points having to regen. Revit by default is placing a point every 3" along the contour, so if you go to 12" then your site is 1/4 the size it was. If you can go to 3' and still be happy with the results great. we've found if we use only major countours in creating the site we are a lot happier.

The only other option is to split the surface into multiple surfaces.

You can also go to Window... Close Hidden Windows before editing the topography. When Revit regens, it regens in all open views.

Work around!!!

I copied the line work into a dummy project and made my changes there. It's a great deal faster, then waiting for it to regenerate every move. Just make sure that you have close lines. If not you're going to spend a long time finding & fixing them.
