    Default Annotation Scaling Performance Hit

I am using AutoCAD 2009 (have used AutoCAD for many years) and just started working with Annotation Scaling today. So far I have just tried it with blocks and hatches. I like the way it works and the ability to set multiple scales for one object. Unfortunately, it seems to REALLY slow down any work in the drawing I am working in. The blocks are being set to annotative in a drawing that is being XREF'd into a sheet file. The biggest hit performance wise is in the sheet file that contains the XREF. Something as simple as changing the annotative scale of a viewport takes about 40 seconds. Thawing a layer inside one of the viewports now takes an extremely long time. Before I started using annotative scaling, those actions and others like them were nearly instantaneous. I do not have extra scales to clean up. I do have quite a few annotative objects - all my door numbers, room numbers, window numbers, hatching in the exterior walls, etc. All told, 197 objects, most have two scales 1/8" and 1/4". Any thoughts?

If you do not need to save/export the drawings to older versions of AutoCAD, try setting SaveFidelity to 0.

Thanks for the suggestions. I turned off savefidelity. The drawing still seems slow. For example, changing the annotation scale of a viewport takes from 45 seconds to a minute. Is that normal? (This is the sheet drawing which contains the XREF which has the annotation scaling.?

That does seem too lengthy. How many scales are evident in the scale list of both drawings?
