    Default Fressze single layer

    Hi all,

I have civil 3d objects which have many layers within it and
when I try to freeze one layer the hold object turns off.
Is there lisp or something that I can use to freeze only
the layer within object I pick...???

Created a few profiles and wanted to freeze off the grides
    but everything turns off.

I hope some one can help...

    Thanks

A couple things you can do.

    1. Change your style to have those items off.
    2. Determine which layer those things are on from your style and freeze in via layer properties.

Number 2 is the best bet.

You're probably using layfrz or something similar. That picks the objects parent layer and will freeze the entire object as you noted.

    Thanks for your response.

Do you know or heard of away to drill down to the layer you want by picking
and not needed to open the Layer Manager...???

I don't know of a way. I'd be interested if there is one.

The issue as I see it is the object is on a layer - normally 0. This is what would freeze when picked. the styles control the parts. You'd need something able to read both the object and then the style inorder to freeze it.

Grab the profile view, right-click > edit profile view style > display tab > turn off the grids.

This works but is not what's being asked.

Here's quick (not pretty) way to accomplish what you want:
Copy one (or one each) of your nested blocks/3D objects to a place out of the way and explode them to their native layers and leave them there.

Then simply use layfrz and pick the line(s) you want to freeze, the nested layers in the blocks will freeze too.

This could be nicely done by maybe creating and naming a view to those entities you can recall so you can go to it quickly. And maybe making a nice organized set of lines like a legend of all the layers in your drawing instead of just the blocks.

Like I said, not exactly what you're looking for but would work well.

Thumbs up Re: Fressze single layer

Or, instead of my suggestion above, just use the "options" within the LAYFRZ command and pick your nested layers to freeze that way, as mentioned in this thread.

I've just tried that and it did not work. It kept trying to freeze 0 which my surface was created on.

I think the issue is there is no Entity to pick. With a C3D object the entity is the object.

    Thanks guys for trying.

I will keep trying myself to find this answer which
I know others here will be able to use too...

This will just make layering off a line or whatever way faster...

    *****
The Object created my C3D has many layers...
The layer I would layer to freeze is the Prof - Grid
but it is the child for the layer call Prof - View (parent)
    which it continue to freeze...

I need to drill down pass the parent and find the child to freeze
and while you can easily do this using Layer Manager
the users want a faster method using a pick object to freeze...

    *****
Here is where I'm trying to workout or find a lisp that will help:
