Default AIA BIM Protocol Exhibit Released

The AIA has released the E202 BIM Protocol Exhibit, "a practical tool for using BIM across the project." According to the release information, this is the intent:

E202–2008 is a hands-on working tool for all project participants that tackles head-on the following questions:
    • Who is responsible for each element of the model and to what level of development?
    • What are authorized uses for the model?
    • To what extent can users rely on the model?
    • Who will manage the model?
    • Who owns the model?

Here is the link to request a PDF sample copy: AIA BIM Protocol

I downloaded a copy today and am familiarizing myself with the content, not sure what I think just yet. It is being referred to as a "best practices process"...
If anyone has any insights into how to use this, please respond...

I first read about it from this post:

    http://forums.augi.com/showthread.ph...highlight=E202

There's a draft attached there too. Personally, I don't now what to think yet. Probably because at this time, things are still "the same". We still produce paper documents, agreements are still the same, and we don't really do a lot of collaboration with models during construction (at least in the region I'm in). We have had a couple of projects were we collaborated during design with a CM at risk, but there were no special agreements that I'm aware of, other than we shared our model just like we would have shared dwg files. It sounds like some regions of the country are moving at a different pace and I'm eager to see where this will take us. But I'm cautious to see how all this works in practice before forming an opinion

That'll teach me to look first! LOL, whoops... One thing I noticed is that the Architect is in charge of the modeled content for all disciplines, and it sounds like responsible for it, too... Reading other POST...
