Looking for some advice from you "old-timers".

Family needs to be a 3-wide casement, custom muntin pattern, and interior and exterior trim.

I have the 1-wide casement (Hurd in this case) already made.

My theory... make a new family and nest 3 instances of the 1-wide into it, nest a family of the custom muntins into it, and nest a family of trim into it.

My question... is this the best way?

Sounds like you are on the right track, you will want to set up parameters in the host to control width and height and then tell the inserted windows parameters to = those. I go back and forth with nesting the trim or just making it, I'm leaning to just making it in the family because you can't dimension it once inserted into the model(it makes your dimensions go all screwy if you try to pick on the nested trim, known bug).
