Cool In the world of precast??

I mastered the art of precast in Revit Architecture (as it getting walls to become panels and having them parametric).

Now I need to find a way to make an 10' wide wall panel have a 1/4" tolerance on each side.

In autocad I would make a block easily to solve this, but revit is different. I want to click on the panel and see a temp dimension of 10' yet the panel is actually 9' 11 1/2" wide. The dimesion needs to incorporate the tolerance.

I use the dis-join command and lots of coffee to make my panels.

    Any ideas?

I don't think families will display a temp dimension of its own length when you click on it. Families usually only show temp dimensions to the origin point from other objects in each direction.

Are you wanting to create families for your panels, or do you want them to be actual wall objects?

i'm not using families because I have to extract a ton of information from each panel. I'm using walls. I hate it because you can't create your own wall family.

I have your answer. Create a void profile that is 1/4" wide, and the depth of your panels. Set up a wall-hosted void using that profile, and make it run vertically. Place each void at the very ends of your walls. Now when you pull a dimension string, it will show 9' - 11 1/2", but the temp dimension will show 10' - 0". You can also copy these walls/voids down the line and they will remain disjoined from each other, with a 1/2" gap in between.

Here's a sample file. Click on each wall to see the temp dimension of 10' - 0".

Actually you can create your own wall family...but it is a trick...basically with making an in place wall family....saving as a group and then saving as a family....there should be a thread in AUGI somewhere....I am not sure if he was the first to discover, but David Baldacchino has a thread about it...
