Question change properties w/o losing Excel link?

I have no trouble inserting a table in ACAD 2008 linked to an excel spreadsheet, but how do I change objects and text to the layers/styles, etc. to match drawing standards without losing my link? I can change objects by individual cells in ACAD, but that's too time consuming.

Huh? How are you able to change a table's cells to be on a different layer? I can only change the entire table (not individual cells).

Colours you can change this way. Don't use the color drop-down in the toolbar - rather the Properties Palette: Select several cells at once by crossing over them then open the Properties Palette (Ctrl+1). Change the Text Color. If you have block's inserted, you'll have to do those cells together and then the text cells; unfortunately you're unable to change a mix of text / block cells at once.
