    Default converting IGES files

Once I have converted an IGES file into invetor as a part, Is It possible to edit and make changes to the models size, shape, and add features to it? The problem I am having is that inventor sees it as a surface (has no volume/thickness) and therefore to add holes and alter the shape does not work, like a normal part. I have used the thicken/offset command to give it volume and once done, it wont allow me to add sketches to that surface to extrude, sweep, ect. If anyone has any input that would be sweet.

Shouldn't this and your other post be in an Inventor-related forum?

Try using the feature reconizer (sp), this will convert the object to a solid and allow editing.

Can you post example of this?
Feature Recognition will not convert surface to solid.

Several years ago I did a presentation on how to fix IGES files in Inventor to form solids at AU, but it is no longer posted on the AU website.
Send me an email and indicate what version of Inventor you are using.

In short, yes you can get it to a solid (usually) and fully editable.
Sometimes it is a simple Options setting, sometimes a bit more.

If you can attach the original IGES file here it might be simple problem.

If you want to learn to do it yourself you will need to become familiar with importing Options, Construction Environment (Repair Environment in later releases).
